01 Story

A proven Tysons concept returns with a sharper point of view.

A relaunch grounded in Arabian generosity, family operating discipline, and a direct farm-to-table practice.

JOUD builds on Shawaya, the Arabian restaurant concept the Abusalem family established and refined in Tysons.

After the family sold Shawaya, the business moved in a different direction. The operating standards, hospitality, and guest loyalty were theirs from the start.

They now return with the same commitment to Saudi and Gulf cooking, a refreshed identity, and a concept built around what has always defined their approach: generosity.

JOUD means generosity, benevolence, and abundance. It evokes the idea of abundant rain: rare, nourishing, and freely given.

That meaning shapes more than the portion and the welcome. It guides how ingredients are sourced, food is prepared, and guests are cared for, beginning at the family’s farm in Leesburg.

The farm-to-table story is operational, not ornamental.

It is how the family works.

02 Team

Proven restaurant experience, strengthened by modern operating intelligence.

JOUD is led by Mo and Khaled Abusalem, combining decades of hands-on restaurant experience, current success in Tysons, and a modern approach to operations and technology. Their philosophy is simple: focus on the essentials, execute them exceptionally well, serve generously, and earn loyalty over time.

Mo Abusalem

Seasoned restaurateur with a proven record in Tysons.

Mo has spent decades building successful restaurants through discipline, consistency, quality, and genuine hospitality. His Mo’s Fried Chicken at Tysons Corner Center continues to demonstrate his understanding of today’s Tysons customer.

At JOUD, Mo leads the food, service culture, and operating standards that turn a strong concept into a lasting restaurant.

Khaled Abusalem

Second-generation restaurateur, entrepreneur, and technologist.

Khaled grew up in the business and helped build Shawaya’s loyalty with Tysons guests. He is also the founder of RazrTechs, an international technology company, with a background in innovation, strategy, and systems thinking.

At JOUD, Khaled works behind the scenes, using technology and operating intelligence to improve consistency, anticipate demand, and personalize the guest experience.

Together, Mo and Khaled pair proven restaurant instincts with modern operating capability: the foundation to perform today and grow with discipline.
